New team members from left to right: Amanda Bilski and Varsha Kumar

Hello!

July is a month of change for us at LBFE. We must say goodbye to Ruben, our Program Assistant, who is returning to Germany to begin medical school at the Universität des Saarlandes in Saarbrücken. While we are losing an amazing Program Assistant, we are fortunate to add two new members to our Programs team. I’d like to officially welcome and introduce Varsha Kumar and Amanda Bilski who begin with us this month:

Varsha is our first Northeastern University Co-op. She is responsible for organizing group volunteering opportunities, leading our monthly organization information sessions, and coordinating our holiday programming. She will be with us full-time through December 2016.

Amanda is partnering with Little Brothers through the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, a year-long program with the ultimate goal of creating positive change within communities. She is responsible for the management of our City Site at 70 St. Botolph in the South End.

The addition of the new team members means that our office is expanding in more ways than one! We are redesigning our office space and are looking forward to the fresh approach. Be sure to follow us forupdates on these new additions.

Team Member Bios

Varsha Kumar is from Bangalore, India and moved to the United States for college. Currently, she is attending Northeastern University with a major in Economics. She is a student who loves to travel around the world. Over the past couple of years, Varsha has volunteered in organizations that have helped disabled adults and children in India, Ireland and Mexico. She likes volunteering “because of the close connection I gain with strangers from around the world”. During her spare time, she can be found reading books and exploring new places with friends. Amanda Bilski is entering her second year of medical school at Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed her undergraduate studies at Washington University in St. Louis in 2012 with a major in anthropology and minor in mathematics. After college she worked as an associate researcher at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, where her research focused on the identification of natural compounds as potential therapeutics in neurodegenerative disorders and diseases of aging. Prior to medical school, she received her Master of Public Health and Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University. She is excited to spend the next year with the residents at her site! (pictured on left)
